Migratory birds are birds which move seasonally from one area to another in search for proper ecological aspects. Most of us occasionally start to think causes of bird migration ?
The answer is very simple as I will discuss them below. bird migration is usually in between the northern and southern areas, due to the winter seasons. The discovery of the migration is a practice of the Ancient authors who are known to be Greeks. Hence, the migration is not a recent practice of the birds, but it is three thousand years old.
They talk about all sort of species such as the swallows, storks, turtle doves and much more in the books that they have written. Also, they did the divisions of the migration into two categories: the long distance migration, diurnal, nocturnal and short distance/ latitudinal migration. Celestial cues such us fro the stars and sun, magnetic fields from the earth and maps which are mental influence the direction of the migration.
REASONS AS TO WHY BIRDS MIGRATE.
Migration of birds is due to factors such as; search for food, breeding grounds, better habitats, places where they can feed their young ones and also raise them. More so, there are different patterns to how the birds move to enjoy the less harsh climates at the coast during the winter season.
For them to be able to accomplish this, some move from the north to south breeding places or they move from the southern region of Africa to the northern winters. Furthermore, for them to be able to accomplish this, they have unique feature both physically and morphological. In that, have the ability to travel long distances without getting tired along the way. For example, the bird which is known as the Red Knot can fly over sixteen thousand kilometers.
This bird is one of the longest travelers in the history of birds movement, and it does it every twice a year using the same routes. It typically breeds in areas such as Siberia, the Africa west coast and even they may extend to the regions of South Africa. Thus, it is how its feature is well fit. Therefore, they can move very fast and steady without altering their direction.
In addition to, not all birds can accomplish the task of migration thus are known to be the non-migratory birds. Migration of the birds annually has another name as true migration The name comes from it being like a reflex, for example when one gets pricked by a needle or a sharp object and it pierces through the skin, there will be the couch reaction.
What am trying to detail here is that the migration is like the reflex of the birds not due to factors such as intrusions and their insecurity. Thus, it has the name the true migration because it happens as part of the natural process. Below are the types of migration;
THE LONG-DISTANCE MIGRATION.
For most of the birds who do the long distance migration, they do not flow a straight line rather the do detours, arched lines along the geographical places to reach their destination. Barriers would be present for the birds which lack some features such as the lack of broad- wings and feeding, areas due to the vast seas or highly raised places such as the mountains. These barriers not only affect the land birds, but also the water birds when it comes to desert areas where there is no availability of water for an extended period of time.
The birds, however, are able to avoid this barrier by choosing other routes such as the Brent geese. Also, the In Wanders whose successful migration depends on factors such as food on the migration routes, giving them a chance to refuel so as to finish the task that is ahead of them. Although, some of these In Wanders can go for very long distance without feeling the need to make feeding stops.
THE DIURNAL MIGRATION.
This migration is done by the raptors such as the vulture’s buzzards, storks, and the eagles. Interestingly, this birds only migrate during the day and cannot be travel over large water bodies because they only have the thermal ability for land. Hence, they do not travel long distances. Some of the birds in this category, such as the falcon, harriers, and hawks lose only twenty to ten percent of their weight because they move less than the small birds do.
THE NOCTURNAL BIRD MIGRATION.
This is the migration of the insectivorous birds such as the hummingbirds, warblers, and the flycatchers, who travel there long distances at night. Therefore, in the morning is where the work begins. During the day is the time where they start to feed to rejuvenate their strength to continue with the journey after a few days. There way of survival during migration is that they avoid certain things such us overheating and avoiding the predators. These passage migrators, go on an enormous lose since they alter their way of feeding to finish their travel.
THE SHORT/ALTITUDINAL MIGRATION.
The short distance species are unique because unlike the long distance birds; they do not require a particular mechanism to cover their distances. They include the wallcreeper, the white-throated dipper found in the mountains and much more in other locations. Furthermore, they have two original revolutions which are; those with long migratory skills(common chiffchaff) and those with short migratory skills (waxwings). They migrate during the day due to, the warm climate and availability of food.
THE NEED TO PROTECT BIRD MIGRATION.
The sight of seeing birds flying in the sky is such a beautiful sight, and as for me, it is one of the wonders of the world at this point. Thus, some humans tend to take the advantage and end up hunting the birds. Hence, these leads to some of the birds being extinct because they lack partners to breed. When these birds fly, they pass through many countries which have different policies thus the cooperation are to take responsibility to ensure that the birds can cross safely.
Birds are breathtaking creatures, and their migration should be properly guarded by us, humans. We can help ourselves by getting to understand the nature of the birds and what needs to be done for them not to be extinct. The migration of birds, is an amazing thing, on how they can move so many kilometers even though they face harsh uncontrollable aspects on the way. Let us safeguard the birds.
